May 04 (UNI) National General Secretary of NCP Tarique Anwar today urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to exert pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting special status to state, saying conducive atmosphere was there to do so otherwise it would be presumed that he had not joined hands with BJP, in the interest of Bihar, as being claimed by him.
Mr Anwar, while releasing a copy of the letter in media, written by him to Chief Minister Kumar, told media persons here that he had requested the CM to use the prevailing opportunity in the interest of Bihar and exert pressure on Prime Minister Mr Modi to grant special status to the state. It was Chief Minister Mr Kumar who had been raising the issue of granting special status to Bihar since 2005 but then there was Congress led UPA regime at the Centre and NDA was in power in Bihar, he added.
“From 2005 to 2014, Congress led UPA government was in power at the Centre while NDA government led by Nitish Kumar was in power from 2005 to 2013 while Mr Kumar continued as CM after snapping ties with BJP till 2014,” Mr Anwar said adding that with Mr Kumar joining hands with BJP in July last year, the political situation had changed as NDA was in power both at the Centre and in Bihar.
NCP leader said that under the leadership of Mr Kumar, a massive signature drive was launched in Bihar and more than ten crore people of Bihar had put their signatures on detailed memorandum submitted to the then PM Dr Manmohan Singh, requesting him to consider the demand of special status to Bihar. It was now the same alliance government at the Centre and in Bihar and Mr Kumar should not lose any opportunity to use it, in the interest of the state, he suggested.
