Mumbai, May 11 (UNI) Maharashtra Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) and former Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Himanshu Roy on Friday allegedly shot himself dead with his service revolver, after a protracted battle with cancer.
According to reports, the 55-year-old Roy shot himself in his mouth at his residence in Malabar Hills around 1340 hrs.
He was taken to a hospital in south Mumbai where he was declared dead by doctors.
Roy had been reportedly suffering from bone cancer for a long time and was on medical leave for more than a year.
The 1988 batch IPS officer also once led the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad.
Indian Premier League spot-fixing probe in 2013 was his last major assignment.
Roy had arrested Bollywood actor Vindu Dara Singh for his alleged links with bookies.
