Early winter snowfall continues in high reaches of HP

Shimla, Oct 11(UNI) Early winter snowfall is continuing in high reaches of Himachal Pradesh as Manali-Leh highway was closed, after mounting of snow on the Rohtang pass and other high passes again.

State Official media social group confirmed that heavy snowfall along with rain occurred at Rohtang pass and adjoining areas on Thursday morning.

All vehicular traffic beyond Gulaba barrier near Manali has been restricted due to snow on the highway which was operational a week ago also received unprecedented snow between Sep 22 to 24 .

Lt Col and Officiating Commander of 70 RCC battalion of Indian Army Deepak Bisht confirmed that heavy snowfall started at Stingiri ahead of Baralachala pass and Rohtang pass.

He cautioned to district administration that they should restrict vehicular traffic in the snow bound area.

” It is advisable to tell civilian vehicles not to move unnecessarily.” He said in the alert massage.

District headquarters of Lahaul Spiti Keylong recorded 7-8 inches (11 to 12 cm) snow and still snowing.

More than 4000 tourists stranded for five days in the tribal district were rescued by the Indian Air force Helicopters recently.

Meanwhile Shimla, tourists resort Kufri and Narkanda and sorrounding areas experience light rain fall in the state. Heavy rains lashed various parts of Bilaspur, Hamīrpur and Chamba district of Himachal .

In Bilaspur Naina Devi got 38 mm rainfall till 0830 hrs, Hamirpur 29 mm, Dalhousie in Chamba 25 mm, Dharamshala in Kangra 22 mm, Saloni in Chamba 21 mm, Berthin in Bilaspur 19 mm, Chamba-16 mm, Gohar in Mandi15 mm, Una 13 mm, Banjar in Kullu & Bhoranj in Hamirpur 12 mm each. In Shimla district Rohru & Bijahi in Mandi 11 mm each, Baldwara n Mandi 10 mm, Sundernagar & Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur 8 mm each, Nagrota Suriyan in Kangra, Sangrah in Sirmaru, Jogindernagar in Mandi & Gaggal in Kangra 7 mm each, Mehre & Chhatrari in Chamba six mm each, Kotkhai in Shimla, Bangana and Amb in Una 5 mm each.

With fresh inclement weather and snow fall on the high reaches coldwave intensified in the state.

Minimum temperature of Keylong recorded minus 0.1 degrees and down by three degrees down the normal, Tourist resort Dalhousie in recorded 3.8 degrees, Kufri in Shimla 3.9 degrees, Kalpa in Kinnaur four degrees.

Tourist resort Manali in Kullu 6.6 degrees, Bhuntar and Seobagh nine degrees each, Shimla 11.3 degrees, Nahan in Sirmaur 11.6 degrees, Solan 12 degrees, Sundernagar in Mandi 12.4 degrees, Chamba 12.7 degrees, Mandi 14 degrees, Dharmshala 14.3 degrees, Una 14.6 degrees, Kangra 14.7 degrees, Hamirpur 15.2 degrees and Bilaspur 15.8 degrees respectively.

The Met Office forecast mainly dry weather in the state in next 24 hrs.
