Thane, Oct 11 (UNI) A 26-year-old labourer from Lokmanya Nagar area of the city here has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a shopkeeper in 2013 by district court.
In his order dated Sep 27, the district judge PP Jadhav observed that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubts the charge of murder against the accused Ganesh Raut.
The name of the deceased was Gopal Pandey, who was running a grocery shop.
On June 21, 2013, purchasing cigarettes from Pandey’s shop, he sought money, Ganesh got annoyed and beat him up. Upon this the victim filed a police complaint with the Vartak Nagar police following which the accused was arrested and later was out on bail.
On November 12, 2013 the deceased as usual opend the shop and later went to the city to purchase goods. His son managed the shop in the intervening period when the accused came to him with a blood stained spade and informed him that he had killed his father with the spade and now now it was his turn and beat him up and fled.
Upon this the son and mother got afraid and even before they could act one of their cousins came rushing to the shop and informed them that the deceased had been attacked and was lying badly injured in the vicinity. The deceased was rushed to the hospital where he died during treatment.
The judge in his order relied on the deposition of mother son duo and observed, it is pertinent to note here that the complainant Suryakant Pande and Nirmala Pande have specifically deposed that on 12.11.2013 at 1230 hrs the accused had been to their shop possessing spade and was saying that maine tere bapko mara, ab tera
number hai. This is extra judicial confession by the accused himself admitting the assault upon Shreegopal Pande.
