New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi and senior party leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh on Thursday condoled the death of environmental activist GD Agrawal who had been on fast at Hardwar since June 22.
In a condolence message, Rahul said,’’Maa Ganga’s true son Prof. GD Agarwal is no more. He ended his life to save the Ganges.
India is a country that has been made with rivers like the Ganga. Saving the Ganges is actually saving the country. We will never forget him. We will take his fight forward.’’ Senior Congress leader and former Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh also condoled the death of GD Agrawal. ‘’I am deeply anguished by the martyrdom of Prof GD Agarwal.
I had known him for a long time. I used to meet him very frequently when I was Environment Minister 2009-2011 and kept in touch with him. He treated me very kindly always as he and my father had been contemporaries in the IIT system. He was an indefatigable crusader not only for Nirmal Ganga but also for Aviral Ganga. It was my privilege and good fortune to be able to implement some of his important suggestions to ensure uninterrupted flow in the holy Ganga and its tributaries in Uttarakhand.
I salute his commitment and dedication, his scholarship and learning, his faith and passion,’’Ramesh said in his condolence message.
