Washington, Oct 15 (UNI) US President Donald Trump said Washington has no information at the moment whether North Korea is working on the production of new missiles.
“We really don’t know,” President Trump said in an interview with CBS television channel. “Let’s say the answer is yes, okay? In the meantime, they haven’t tested a missile. They haven’t tested a rocket,” TASS reported.
“They definitely haven’t done a nuclear test because you know about them real fast,” he said. “It sort of moves the earth. And we have a relationship now.”
The historic meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump took place at the Capella Hotel on Singapore’s Sentosa Island on June 12.
The parties signed a joint document, in which Pyongyang made a commitment to denuclearising the Korean Peninsula in return for US security guarantees. Trump pledged to meet Pyongyang’s demand to halt joint military drills with South Korea.
“We’re meeting,” Trump said. “I believe Kim Jong-un likes me. I like him. We have a good relationship. It’s very important.”
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced in April that Pyongyang halted nuclear tests and joined the global nuclear disarmament process in line with its new strategy to build socialist economy.
In early February, however, North Korea rolled out its new Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at a Pyongyang military parade. The North Korean military demonstrated at least four launchers with Hwasong-15 ICBMs painted in their typical black hue and also several prime movers with Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The US Department of State announced on March 6 that it had imposed a set of new sanctions on Pyongyang over the alleged use of chemical warfare agent to assassinate the North Korean leader’s elder half-brother, Kim Jong-nam, at Kuala Lumpur airport on February 13, 2017.
Asked about an issue of easing US sanctions imposed against North Korea, President Trumps said “No I’m not doing it. This isn’t the Barack Obama’s administration. I haven’t eased the sanctions. I haven’t done anything.”
