New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) New Zealand team opening batsman Martin Guptill has been ruled out of New Zealand’s tour to the United Arab Emirates with a left calf strain, statement said.
He picked up the injury during the Plunket Shield domestic competition and subsequent scans have shown that he will require at least a four week rehabilitation period.
Speaking about the injury, New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen said, ”Unfortunately for Martin it will take him some time to get over this injury and, with a long summer ahead, we need to make sure we minimise the risk of him repeating it.
Talking to Cricbuzz, a sports news website, Guptill said,”I had a pretty good winter, injury-less, and picked up a little tweak in the Caribbean and to come back and to be tracking well with that and to get a different injury is extremely frustrating and a bit gutting.”
The New Zealand team will play three-match T20I series against Pakistan from October 31st in Abu Dhabi followed by three ODIs and three Tests.
The batsman has been a key player of his team for a long time.
