NZ batsman Martin Guptill ruled out of UAE tour due to calf strain

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) New Zealand team opening batsman Martin Guptill has been ruled out of New Zealand’s tour to the United Arab Emirates with a left calf strain, statement said.

He picked up the injury during the Plunket Shield domestic competition and subsequent scans have shown that he will require at least a four week rehabilitation period.

Speaking about the injury, New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen said, ”Unfortunately for Martin it will take him some time to get over this injury and, with a long summer ahead, we need to make sure we minimise the risk of him repeating it.

Talking to Cricbuzz, a sports news website, Guptill said,”I had a pretty good winter, injury-less, and picked up a little tweak in the Caribbean and to come back and to be tracking well with that and to get a different injury is extremely frustrating and a bit gutting.

The New Zealand team will play three-match T20I series against Pakistan from October 31st in Abu Dhabi followed by three ODIs and three Tests.

The batsman has been a key player of his team for a long time.
