“Only position we were trying to figure out a batsman for was the no. 4 slot. Rayudu had missed out the England tour but he could play the Asia Cup. He is designed to play in the middle slots,” Kohli said.
Pointing Rayudu had played match winning innings for Hyderabad in domestic cricket several times, the captain exuded confidence that he will succeed in the no. 4 position.
He further said the batting order could be shuffled in different formats of the game and depending on the situation and added, “While some positions needs consistency, line up could be adjusted depending on the situation.”
“The lower order batsmen have not got much match practice (of late), as the openers and the top order have come out with good performances,” he added.
On the team’s ODI preparations, Kohli said the team has been doing well and the total 18 games, in various formats, ahead of the World Cup will be used for ‘adjusting’ the team.
Meanwhile, the 12-member Indian team for the first match tomorrow was declared today.
The squad comprises Kohli (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Syed Khaleel Ahmed.
