Ms Desai along with other five women below 50 years old landed at the Nedumbassery Airport by an Indigo flight at around 0440 hours. However, she could not get out from the domestic terminal following protest by the devotees, including large number of women in front of the arrival terminal.
Even taxi drivers said they will not take her to Sabarimala.
The devotees pointed out that since Ms Desai herself declared that she is not all a devotee and faithful and she just wanted to have a darshan without the century old rituals like ‘irumudi kettu’ and 41-days vow, they will not allow her and other women at any cost even they lost their lives.
She landed at the Airport in yellow and black kurtha and like a tourist and not like an ayyappa devotee with traditional attair and irumudi kettu.
However, with Ms Desai stick to her stand that she will not go back without having darshan, it virtually turned out to be fighting field as scores of devotees, particularly large number of women since morning gathered at the airport.
Though police had talked with the devotees, they rejected the request stating that that they would not end their protest.
Earlier she had wrote to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking police protection right from the Airport to Sabarimala, including her accommodation and her expenses.
However, it was not provided.
Earlier, State Devaswom Minister had stated that the government will not provide protection to any activist and the government is with devotees with all eyes are on government whether it would provide protection to an activist.
With the news spread that Ms Desai has landed at the Airport and the government is providing protection to her, large number of devotees thronged the Airport as well as at all the vantage points to Kottayam.
