Jaipur, Nov 19 (UNI) In a crucial move seen as an attempt to counter Congress’ decision of fielding ex- Union Minister Jaswant Singh’s MLA son Manvendra Singh against Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in Jhalrapatan-, the ruling BJP has roped in the erstwhile royals of Kota for entering the December 7, battle of ballots for Rajasthan Assembly.

The saffron party has also attempted to block the principal opposition party’s state president Sachin Pilot by fielding the Chief Minister’s “most trusted” cabinet colleague, Yunus Khan against him for his maiden contest for the state legislature from Tonk.

In the fourth and fifth lists of candidates released by the party, scion of Kota royal family former Congress MP Ijyaraj Singh’s wife Ms Kalpana Raje is given ticket from Ladpura in Kota town of Harauti region.

This not only aimed at boosting electoral prospects for the party in Ladpura and adjoining constituencies but also caused break-up of the former royals with the Congress that is believed to mitigate the impact of the presence of estranged BJP legislator and ex-MP Manvendra Singh against the CM in Jhalrapatan segment of Kota division.

Iyaraj Singh had won the Kota Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket in 2009 and the royal family was obviously with the grand old party since then.

Now the Chief Minister’s move of fielding his wife from Ladpura has changed this allegiance and the former Congress lawmaker in now supposed to campaign for the ruling party probably in entire Harauti region including Jhalrapatan.

In the Congress state chief’s new battle field in Tonk the entry (in fray) of Yunus Khan will surely make the contest tough and more complicated in view of fairly good number of Muslim voters.

Meanwhile, the saffron party has also fielded former Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Mamta Sharma-a two time former MLA-, from Pipalda in Kota division hours after she switched over to the party from Congress on Sunday evening.

The party has also given ticket to retiring IAS officer OP Saini who also joined BJP last evening and applied for voluntary retirement just a couple of days back.

The party has also pushed in electoral battle, Jaipur Mayor Ashok Lahoti against estranged BJP heavy-weight and leader of newly floated party Bharat Vahini Party from Sanganer in Jaipur.
The Congress was also busy in the last minute tricky moves to settle issues with key leaders.

While agreed to give ticket to former Minister B D Kalla from his old seat Bikaner-West, the party has also changed its decision twice on candidature for Bikaner-East and finally retained Kanhieya Lal Jhawar reportedly under pressure from the Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi.
