Sovan Chatterjee quit ministry of housing and fire department, asked to quit Mayoral post

Kolkata, Nov 20 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s senior cabinet colleague Sovan Chatterjee today resigned from Housing and Fire department with immediate effect and was asked to quit from his mayoral post of Kolkata Municipal Corporation by Wednesday.

Official sources at Nabanna said the chief minister sent his resignation letter to the Raj Bhawan for acceptance.

Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim has been asked to take additional charge of the two departments – housing and fire department- with immediate effect.

The dramatic development happened after the CM and Sovan Chatterjee had some differences on some issues at the state assembly today.

Later, Mr Chattjerjee went to Nabanna and was presence with the chief minster during a series of fleet of fire department vehicles were flagged off by Ms Banerjee.

Before today’s resignation letter, Mr Chattjerjee previously had submitted four times to quit the ministry. But each time the chief minister rejected those letter and asked to continue with the cabinet.
