24th Maharaasyatra inaugurated in bordering subdivision: Speakers emphasised on rejuvenating history

Ambassa (Tripura), Nov 22 (UNI) The guests and speakers have emphasised on restoration and rejuvenation of the golden past while inaugurating the 24th edition of Maharasyatra of the Manipuri community in the remote Panchasi area in the bordering subdivision of Kamalpur in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai here last evening.

The festival has been inaugurated by the MLA Asis Das. The member of Dhalai Zilla Parishad Anadi Sarkar was the Chief Guest. Among others the President of Kamalpur Press Club Supriyo Datta and the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shankar Chandra Das were present.

The festival will continue for three days.
”The community has forgotten their glorious heroes like Tikendrajit who has been hanged by the British after he has fought against them for freedom of Manipuri in 1891.

As a result, the community has been detaching from their root. Maharaasyatra festival is one of the traditional festival. In 1774 Manipur king Pamhoiba has been adopted into Vaishnavism”, said Anandi Sarkar in a statement.

Later his grandson has king Bhagya Chandra has transformed it into present form. Now the government is helping the celebration. But the community should be aware of their past and preserve it, he added.
