Sonia, Rahul should apologize for killing of students in 1969 separate statehood agitation : TPS

Hyderabad, Nov 22 (UNI) Telangana Praja Samithi (TPS) on Thursday demanded that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi should tender an unconditional apology to Telangana people first before going ahead to address public meetings or roadshows in the state for the December 7 Assembly Election.

The Congress Party made arrangements for a public meeting to be addressed by Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi in Medchal on Friday.

In a statement, TPS President Neera Kishore said that the Congress party has no moral right to step on the land of Telangana for seeking votes as it was responsible for killing of 369 students in 1969 agitation for a separate Telangana.

She alleged that the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Government had resorted to kill students for participating in the statehood agitation.

Ms Neera recalled that the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy with the consent of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who was also the President of the Congress Party, allegedly killed the students during the statehood agitation.

The Centre and State governments ruled by the Congress had conspired to suppress the statehood agitation by killing the students.

The Congress leadership has to tender apology and then address the public meetings in the state, she added.
