TN CM meets Modi, seeks Rs 15,000 cr Cyclone relief, immediate release of Rs 1,500 cr

Chennai, Nov 22 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought a financial package of Rs 15,000 crore for relief and rehabilitation works in Cyclone ‘Gaja’ affected 
districts, including an immediate release of Rs 1,500 crore.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi after meeting Mr Modi, during which he handed over a detailed memorandum detailing the losses caused by the devastating cyclone that ravaged the coastal districts, Mr Palaniswami urged him to immediately release Rs 1,431 crore for relief works, besides deputing a Central team to assess the damages caused by the calamity. 

He said the Prime Minister has promised to depute a Central team soon to visit the affected districts. 
The Rs 1,431 crore immediate assistance including included Rs 4.50 crore towards compensation to those killed in cyclone and rain-related incidents, Rs 200 crore assistance for the livelihood of the affected people, Rs 100 crore for damaged huts, houses and tiled houses, Rs 1.50 crore towards the loss of cattles, goats and birds, Rs 87 crore for damaged crops of farmers and horticultural crops, Rs 685 crore for electricity department, Rs 76 for fisheries, Rs 16 crores for PWD Water Resources, Rs 57 crore for PWD buildings, Rs eight crore for health department, Rs 119 crore 
for state highways, Rs five crore for Panchayats and Town Panchayats, Rs two crore for Municipalities, Rs 62 crore for Rural development, Rs two crore for forest depatment and Rs six crore for Animal Husbandry department.
