US continues denying using white phosphorus in attacks on Syria

MOSCOW, Nov 22 (Sputnik) The United States continues denying using shells with white phosphorus in their bombing attacks on the Syrian territories located to the east of Euphrates, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Syrian state television reported about the deaths of civilians in the city of Hajin in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor as a result of air strikes by the US-led international coalition with the use of white phosphorus prohibited by international conventions.

“According to Syrian media, the coalition’s aviation used white phosphorus in its attacks again. The United States continues denying it as persistently as it accused the Syrian government of using chemical weapons in Duma in April,” Zakharova said at a press briefing.

She added that Russia would continue resisting the destructive behavior of the United States and its partners, aimed at discrediting the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

“Together with our allies, we will resist this destructive behavior which is obviously aimed at erosion of the basis of international law and multilateral agreements,” Zakharova said.
