Mayawati expresses concern on rising crime against women in UP

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has expressed her concern over the deteriorating crime in Uttar Pradesh particularly against the fair sex, and alleged that it seems that law and order is not in the priority list of the present BJP government.

The incident of a girl burning to death after being raped in Agra and again a girl being raped in the Taj city on Friday, shows how the crime is being controlled by the government. It seems that the government has no intention of controlling crime as the main accused in the Bulandshahr violence were still roaming free and police has failed to arrest them,” she said.

In a statement here on Friday, Ms Mayawati charged that the BJP government’s attitude in the state assembly session presently underway also gives enough indication about their motive and way of functioning. The incidents of crime in the state has gone up in the present regime and the laxity on the part of the government has given the criminals a free hand,” she said.

In Agra, a dalit girl was raped and then burnt by some miscreants. The girl died at New Delhi during treatment but the accused were still at large. Another girl was raped in Agra on Friday, a police report had said.
