Minister of State for Communication and Railways Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that IIT BHU has been a pioneer in India’s industrial growth in the last 100 years and the institute will always stand as a living example to the grand vision and steadfast patriotism of its founder Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya.
Mr Sinha, who is also an alumni of the Institute and the former President of its Student Union, lead the nationwide ‘IIT BHU Centenary Celebration Walks’ from Central Secretariat metro station to India Gate here on Sunday.
While interacting with media persons, the minister said,’ IIT BHU has been a pioneer in India’s industrial growth in last 100 years.” ‘It’s been 100 glorious years of IIT BHU, which is a living monument to the grand vision and steadfast patriotism of our illustrious founder Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya’, he added.
IIT BHU one of the premier engineering Institutes of the country is celebrating its centenary year in 2019. The Institute pioneered mechanical and electrical engineering studies in India in January 1919 at what was then known as BENCO (Benares Engineering College).
‘The Institute has an exemplary rich tradition of nation building and has been identified for making R&D contributions towards development of defence corridor by UP Government as a project of national importance’,said its Director Dr PK Jain.
The yearlong centenary celebrations will commence with a four day event at its sprawling campus in the holy city of Varanasi from February 9 to 12 and will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Students, alumni, dignitaries from India and abroad will grace the occasion.
