Conman posing as mediaperson nabbed

A conman who use to allegedly pose as a mediaperson and cheat people through social media platforms was nabbed, police said on Sunday. The man, identified as Abhishek Vashishth, used to pose himself as a media house owner and dupe people through matrimonial sites.

He was apprehended by a team of Delhi Police Special Cell on Saturday based on a specific information, from Prem Ashram Chowk in Haridwar,Uttarakhand. It was later revealed that this person had cheated one family from Delhi and regarding which a case was registered at Barakhamba Road police station.

A Delhi court had also issued a non-bailable warrant against him in the said case. The 32-year-old man is originally from Kurukshetra Haryana. Earlier, in the year 2012 , he posed as an Astrologer (Acharya Atul Ji Maharaj) and appeared on a channel on programs and the channel later discontinued his programs upon discovering about his cheating activities.

He used to allegedly lure women through matrimonial sites and then dupe them and still is in contact with several women, police said. He also has involvements in cheating matters pertaining to Chandigarh, while some of them are being verified. Further probe was on in the matter, police added.
