NIA bursts ISIS-inspired terror module, nabs 10 accused

In a major crackdown on an ISIS-inspired module styled as ‘Harkat-ul-Harb-e-Islam’, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a joint operation with Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday carried out searches at 17 places in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and arrested 10 suspects allegedly associated with the module.

“On receipt of credible information that a group of pro-ISIS individuals have formed a terrorist gang and they are preparing to carry out terrorist attacks targeting vital installations, sensitive locations and crowded places in and around Delhi/NCR, the NIA on December 20 registered a case under several sections against the mastermind of the module, viz. Mufti Mohd. Suhail @ Hazrath s/o Hafiz Ahmad, native of Amroha, UP and his associates and investigation was taken up forthwith,” the agency said in a statement.

The NIA claimed to have found that Mufti Mohd Suhail alias Hazrath and his associates mobilized funds, procured weapons, ammunition and explosive material to carry out explosions and fidayeen attacks at places of importance in and around Delhi.

In an effort to disrupt and dismantle the module, the agency conducted searches at six places in Jafrabad, Seelampur in Delhi and 11 locations in Uttar Pradesh, including Amroha, Lucknow, Hapur and Meerut.

The agency seized huge quantities of explosive material, arms and ammunition and other incriminating material and documents.

The seizure included 25 kg of explosive material, such as Potassium Nitrate, Ammonium Nitrate, Sulphur, Sugar material paste, 12 pistols, 150 rounds of live ammunition, 1 country- made rocket launcher, 112 alarm clocks, mobile phone circuits, batteries, 51 pipes, remote control car triggering switch, wireless digital doorbell for remote switch, steel containers, electric wires, 91 mobile phones, 134 SIM cards, 3 laptops, knife, sword, ISIS-related literature and a cash amount of Rs 7.5 lacs approximately, the statement said.

The arrested accused were identified as Mufti Mohd Suhail, Anas Yunus, Rashid Zafar Raq, Saeed, Raees Ahmad, Zubair Malik, Zaid Malik, Saqib Iftekar, Mohd. Irshad and Mohd Azam.

The arrested accused would be produced before the NIA Special Court at Patiala Court House on Thursday.
