Sabarimala, Dec 30 Prohibitory orders clamped under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in Pamba, Ilavunkal, Nilakkal and Sannidanam have been extended till January 5.
The Lord Ayyappa temple, which was opened this evening for the ‘Makaravillaku’ festival, witnessed heavy rush from Sunday.
The 144 was clamped, following reports that the situation in Sabarimala may become worse at the concluding days of the festival, in connection with the controversial ‘young women’ entry into the temple.
Pathanamthitta District Collector P B Nooh has extended the prohibitory orders based on various reports from officials concerned including the District Superintendent of Police.
However, no restriction was imposed on devotees coming in groups and chanting ‘Ayyappa mantras.’
